ART (Active Release Technique) is a specific soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Each treatment is a combination of examination and treatment by the physician. The physician utilizes their hands to evaluate the soft tissue for any abnormalities, and abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements to engage the affected tissues and allow for release of the restrictions that are detected.
Myofascial release is a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. Fascia is a thin, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that wraps most structures within the human body, including muscle, and it supports these structures. Fascia can become restricted due to overuse, trauma, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and diminished blood flow. Myofascial release method engages the myofascial tissue restriction or tension, which can be detected by the physician. The tissue can be loaded with a constant force until a release of the tension occurs. By slowly stretching the muscles within the fascia, the fascia will also be stretched, which can also help to release these fascial adhesions or restrictions.
